Setting Up Custom Ringtones on Samsung Fascinate

There have been a lot of reported issues with people trying to set a custom ringtone to their Samsung Fascinates.  Actually, you can set a custom ringtone, an SMS tone, and alarm tones, all in a few quick changes.  This does NOT require you to root your phone.  But for it to work, it is recommended you have an SD card in the phone when you do this.  **I haven't tried doing this without one**

Make sure your SD card is inserted correctly and functioning.  Then via usb cable connect your phone to your computer. If your computer doesn't recognize your phone check the notification bar at the top of the phone's screen and check for a red triangle.  If you DON'T see a red triangle skip this next step. If you do see one then click on the red triangle.  There will be a check mark next to an option that says "Turn off debug mode." You need to click that and then it will ask you to unplug your usb cable. Once you have done this your can reconnect your phone to the computer.

To let your computer recognize your phone you have to drag down the notification bar and click on the usb symbol.  It will prompt you whether to mount or don't mount.  You need to click mount.  Your computer will now recognize your phone as a mass storage device.

Open up your phone on your computer in Windows Explorer.
Look for a folder that says "media."
Go into that directory and look for folder called "audio."
Once you are there you will need to make new folders named: "notifications" "ringtones" "alarms"

Then place the necessary MP3s into the appropriate folders.

To change the tones on the phone to these new ones follow the directions below:

To change Ringtone:
Settings > sound and display > phone ringtone
To change SMS tone:
Settings > sound and display > notification sound
To change Alarms tone:
Set the sound when adding a new alarm.

Then select the ringtone you put in the above folder(s).

Another way to set your ringtone for when someone calls you is, after you have done all the steps above, you can go into your music player and while looking at the list of MP3s you can hold down on the one you want to set and a menu will pop up.  Press on set as and then you can set it as your ringtone.

Done.
