Look Out Apple. Here Android Comes!

I was reading an article in NewsWeek magazine about the development of Android OS.  I was amazed to see that Android OS is really coming around.  They predicted that in a very short number of years that Android OS could possibly beat out Apple.  The main reason is that Android is open-source and is distributed among many cell phone manufacturers.  Each one can have their own little twist added to the OS.  The problem they thought when they had this idea of distributing it was that the different companies would change Android so much it wouldn't be compatible with Android things.  So they had a benchmark set that each variation had to match certain requirements to be considered an Android phone.
The positive to all of this is that Android can be on just about every carrier and have three or four phones that run it.  They have teams of engineers from all the different phone companies working with Google to make this operating system better.  Opposed to Apple where they have one phone, on one (maybe two soon) carrier, and its been the same idea for the iOS since the beginning.  Not much has changed.
Updates for the Android phones were reported in this article that th Gingerbread update will be coming out this month or very soon after.  They are also working a new version called Honeycomb which will be based on the Gingerbread, but Honeycomb will be used as an operating system for PCs.
